This is why at Still Waters, we primarily source our products from day boats run by responsible fishermen and we ensure all our suppliers operate sustainable policies.
The strict regulations on the Co. Down Scallop fishery were proposed and developed by our own fishermen to ensure the long term sustainability of Scallops on our shores. Some examples of the restrictions include:
- Night time and weekend ban on fishing.
- Size of Scallops to be larger than other UK and Ireland fisheries at 110mm shells.
- Large trawlers are discouraged by a limit on the number of dredges which can be towed.
As a consumer or customer, you should always ask where your fish has been caught, but you can rest assured if the label or menu says Still Waters, your fish is local, your fish is fresh and your fish has been caught via sustainable practices in managed fisheries.
